One of Ukraine's most extensive exhibitions, The Ukrainian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War memorializes the Soviet Union's battle against Nazi Germany during World War II and displays a host of military artifacts. Visit the museum and explore its more than 300,000 exhibits dispersed throughout cavernous halls. You'll see weapons, documents, personal effects, and a wealth of other items from World War II. The museum's most famous symbol outside is hard to miss: a 62 m (203 ft) titanium "Motherland" statue depicting a woman with a sword and shield. Don't miss the outdoor exhibitions of military hardware, including armored personnel carriers, Cold War-era jets, and even some brightly painted tanks. • It's incredible how much they put together for this museum. It is very well designed so tells a story of the war from beginning to end. I thought I knew a lot about WWII and the eastern front but I le...  read more »
  • This is a wonderful resort where you can see the enormity of war that swept Kiev, not only at the time of the SOVIET UNION, there are vehicles earlier but also vehicles from Donetsk. Important to note that consists of two exhibitions, one is on the road to Lavry peczerskiej and the second (larger) is located under the statue of the "motherland". Both exhibitions are payable at the entrance. In both sadly lacking translation wystawek into other languages what is very disturbing if you do not know. The Cyrillic alphabet that is Ukrainian. Perhaps 5 may ignite a huge torch-eternal fire. I highly recommend! A must have! A beautiful square with tanks, sculpture, monument "rodiny mat" and this view on Kiev. A beautiful place!

  • We were 4 guys who wanted to have a look at this museum. It is huge, and tells the history from a Ukrainian point of view in a very good way. It is different to many western museums.
  • For an American, this museum offers a view of WW2 that we don't see often. The Ukrainian people and Kiev in particular witnessed much of the horrors from the war. The museum tells the story of the USSR's involvement in the "Great Patriotic War" after Hitler's betrayal. Occasionally temporary exhibits of current-interest will be curated in the main hall. The museum is filled with historical artifacts as well as intriguing stories of bravery, tragedy, and loss. Absolutely worth your time to visit. Plan on spending several hours wandering through the displays. Take a translator or Russian-speaking friend if you don't know the language. They do offer tours in English but these are often monotone and dull. You will hear stories not written on the displays but they rush through with little time for questions.
  • It's very Soviet, and absolutely worth an hour or two of anyone's time in Kiev. The views from the feet of the statue are excellent.... Even with the slightly scary tiny elevator ride to get there.
  • Awesome if you are interested in history : it is a wonderful monument build during the soviet union, there is a museum about the second world war and also a small exposition about the Donetsk events and the revolution which occured in 2014 in Ukraine.
  • Let's a person understand the hell Ukraine with through in the war. It was not like Poland but tragic situation for so many. But history shows Stalin may have kill as many or more by starvation and other means.
  • Very nice place to stay with family on weekends.
