  • And do you know which city called Volyn Jerusalem? Yes, Berdichev. This ancient walled city, a city of Jewish wedding jokes and Balzac. Berdychev intertwined Ukrainian, Polish and Jewish culture, which is reflected in the unique architecture and the mentality of its inhabitants. In the middle of 19 century up to 90% of the population were Jews, that radically changed the essence of the city. Our acquaintance with Berdicheva started with the Jews Museum, which opened 2 years ago at the premises of the city library. 2 in the Museum halls: the first is represented by household items, musical instruments, photography, traditional costumes and customs; the Hall is decorated with Jewish proverbs. Moved by the story of parikmahere, which is more than 80 years has devoted his profession (there is a photograph of him and tools). The exhibits are provided by the inhabitants of Berdichev, in particular the Jewish community of the city. The second room is dedicated to the greatest tragedy of the Jewish people-the Holocaust during World War II (where the show video of these events). The events of the 20 century (Revolution and the Holocaust) from massacring by Nazis majority Jewish population led to the demise of their Habitat Wednesday. Throughout the twentieth century the Jewish population on the territory of Ukraine was reduced almost in 10 times, while the fate of those who considered Yiddish mother tongue, has declined from over 90% to 10%. Berdychev especially pronounced Jewish character, next to the Museum are the Jewish places: hospital Dr Sherencisa, the ancient cemetery and the tomb of Levi Yitzhak Ben Meira (Rabbi Berdichev), Shiperovicha pharmacy, theater, synagogue. The three-storey building also impressed the commercial school in Berdichev, built 1908 onwards. The decoration used bricks of different textures and colors. Now it is building.

  • OO Monastery. The Carmelites is the most famous monument in Berdichev. This is one of the few sanctuaries located on the present-day Ukraine with the miraculous image of our Lady of Berdyczowskiej. During the Communist era as the majority of temples was closed. Now use the clergy there with Polish. A beautiful place associated with United States history. Being in Berdichev should there be sure to go. In the courtyard of the monastery of Germany during World War II, wiped out a few hundred Jews. Inform-even with Soviet-type plate, on which you can read about the shooting in the "Soviet citizens".
