Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kabale

#1 of 78 in Parks in Uganda
A World Heritage Site protecting a large proportion of the world's wild mountain gorillas, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park represents one of Uganda's oldest rainforests. Bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo and nearby neighbor to Rwanda, the park provides a home to a diverse population of plant and animal life, with one of the broadest ranges of vegetation in East Africa. Prepare yourself for a challenge if you go gorilla-tracking--although the sight of an endangered gorilla in its natural habitat will more than reward your efforts. If you're looking for something at a slower pace, the forest's 350 avian species provide ample bird-watching opportunities. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. • It was astonishing when we jumped out of comfortable beds to have breakfast and then stride high the mountainous place to meet the rare species. It is a memory that can never be erased.  more »
  • My travel from Kabale to Ruhija was a friendly one and the UWA Ndego Gate helped give us the briefing and welcome remarks. Thank you  more »
  • We went Gorilla trekking in Bwindi with my son as part of our one week in Uganda and it was an amazing moment standing in front of Gorillas and seeing them in their home. Truly emotional moment!  more »

  • Amazing gorilla trek. Such amazing creatures. Our guide ensured we got up close with amazing good views for photographs
  • We took the gorilla trek, it was excellent. We got so close to the gorillas and spent a whole hour with them. It is not cheap ($600), but cheaper than the same activity in Rwanda.
  • The Gorilla Habitation experience is incredible. You are up close and personal (about 33 feet away) with the gorillas. You’ll spend up to 4 hours with the gorillas (and this is after an hour or more hike to find them) observing them and allowing them to get used to people. The guides, trackers and porters are familiar with the area and the animals. Their respect and love of the animals is apparent. Please note the trip is only for the most physical fit/experienced hikers. Note that the Uganda Habitation is much more difficult than the Rwanda trekking however, with the habitation experience you get to spend more time with the gorillas. Our guide, Patrick and porters, Stephen and Ketty were amazing. The trek was very difficult for me (although not for my husband) and they ensured I made it there and back.
  • Trek to see the gorilla, was the most amazing thing I've ever done. To be up close and personal with the gorillas (less than three metres away. Was outstanding. Such an emotional day. And the porters and trackers that guided us were fantastic. Thank you for the amazing experience.
  • Absolutely magical place, and it's amazing how good the conservation programs are. Seeing the gorillas in the wild is a truly unique experience, and one I hope will be possible way into the future. For the walk, I definitely recommend hiring a porter. For just $15 they are so helpful, and are all from the local community so you help support them.
