Trunk Bay, Virgin Islands National Park

4.6
#1 of 102 in Wildlife in U.S. Virgin Islands
Watch the crystalline water gently whirling around cliffs and crags, lapping the soft coral sands of one of the most pristine beaches in the Caribbean at Trunk Bay. Rent snorkel gear and discover colorful sea life along the underwater trail of reefs. The inviting, warm waters are perfect for underwater photography enthusiasts. When you have had enough of swimming and basking in the tropical sun, cool off with a frozen cocktail or dine at one of the romantic restaurants. The shade of the national park hides many hiking trails for you to explore. Look for the ruins of historic sugar plantations, remnants of the colonial past. Note that the beach gets overcrowded sometimes. Using our international travel planner, Virgin Islands National Park attractions like Trunk Bay can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Great beach with excellent Caribbean blue water. Small island with a snorkeling trail in the water. As a scuba diver, this is a great snorkeling site. Bring your Go Pro as there is a large school of s...  more »

This beach is so beautiful with crystal clear waters. I totally recommend going to visit this beach. They have a food shack not a restaurant and a small bar area. You can bring your own chairs or wate...  more »

We spent 2 days at this beach. It was low season, so hardly any people on the beach. One day we drove to the beach. Parking was very limited and we ended up parking on the edge of the main road. The n...  more »

My day at Trunk Bay rates up there with the days my children were born! Seriously, St. John is far more beautiful than Maui. God bless Teddy Roosevelt for making 2/3 of St. John federal preserve. The beach is so pristine that at first I was uneasy, but some Cruzan Rum loosened me up. You MUST snorkel around the tiny island off the beach. The coral reef, underwater guide signs, and parrot fish are breathtakingly beautiful. Trunk and Cinnamon Bay Beaches are THE most lovely places I have ever seen, and I have been to Maui and other Caribbean islands. I am a native Kentuckian, and only these two beaches are as stunning as Kentucky in May. You must see Trunk Bay!!!

If you're in St. Thomas or St. John, this is the first place you must visit. Thunk Bay is a place that you have to see in order to truly appreciated, this Beach location is perfect, is beautiful, serene, clear waters, white sands, not crowded and one of the best in the world. As a bonus, you can Snorkel at Trunk Bay, there's a reef with lots of different types of fish and coral. If you come in a cruise to St. Thomas like me, you can still get over this paradise really easy; 1- get off the cruise early and get a taxi ($10pp) to the Ferry Terminal (10-15Min). 2- Ferris ($7PP) leave every hour, arrive at St. John (10min). 3- Get a taxi from St. John Terminal to Trunk Bay ($6PP) (10min) The taxis know where to take you and they make a stop at the top so you can take pictures and videos of Trunk Bay. 4- Rent Snorkeling equipment, there's a reef trail (bonus) if you want to snorkel. 5- Keep in mind that if you're cruise leaves at 5 you should leave Trunk Bay by 3:30 so you can catch the Ferry at 4pm. 6- Profit, enjoy Trunk Bay. The best part, you're on your own time, you get to enjoy this beautiful beach and place, lastly you pay less and enjoy more since no one is rushing you.

Trunk Bay should receive six stars....it is that great of a location. The National Park manages the property which is ran top notch, in my opioion. There a many nice beaches in the Caribbean but Trunk Bay is among the best in the region.
