Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge, St. Croix

(4.8/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Have some fun in the sun as you swim in the exceptionally clear water, or relax on pristine white sands, at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge. The beach, which stretches for just over 3 km (2 mi), is surrounded by green vegetation. In the refuge, find the Aklis Archeological Site, which dates back to the year 400 CE. The beach turns into a sanctuary for leatherback sea turtles during the nesting season. Bring plenty of food, water, sunscreen, and even an umbrella; there are no nearby facilities and natural shade is minimal. • THE BEST beach on St. Croix. It's only open on the weekends and only when the turtles aren't nesting. No facililties, bar, restaurants - just you and the beach. No shade. I recommend going early (at 1...  more »

  • Gorgeous beach. The first spot we stopped at was very choppy water. Go to the furthest one for completely calm water, beautiful views, and a perfect location to spend the afternoon.
  • This is the beast beach in all of St. Croix. It's only open on the weekends most of the year but you absolutely must go. Drive into the park and keep driving until you can't go any further and there's a large parking lot. Follow the short path out to the beach and you will be stunned. There's no restaurants or anything really. It's a turtle sanctuary primarily. We've never been during the turtle season but I would definitely go and see the event if ever there.
  • I saw the turtle hatching and was amazed by the beauty of such moment. Must go activity while in St Crpix
  • Cleanest Beach on STX.
  • Beautiful beach!
