Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge, St. Croix
Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Have some fun in the sun as you swim in the exceptionally clear water, or relax on pristine white sands, at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge. The beach, which stretches for just over 3 km (2 mi), is surrounded by green vegetation. In the refuge, find the Aklis Archeological Site, which dates back to the year 400 CE. The beach turns into a sanctuary for leatherback sea turtles during the nesting season. Bring plenty of food, water, sunscreen, and even an umbrella; there are no nearby facilities and natural shade is minimal. We walked the beach at Sandy Point--long road off the main road to the parking lot, then a short hike to the beach. Amazing U-shaped beach, saw snorkelers and fisherman. Amazing views of the water.

Traveled here knowing that the beach area is closed during several months for turtle hatchlings, but not that the refuge would also be closed. Disappointing.
This is the beast beach in all of St. Croix. It's only open on the weekends most of the year but you absolutely must go. Drive into the park and keep driving until you can't go any further and there's a large parking lot. Follow the short path out to the beach and you will be stunned. There's no restaurants or anything really. It's a turtle sanctuary primarily. We've never been during the turtle season but I would definitely go and see the event if ever there.
I saw the turtle hatching and was amazed by the beauty of such moment. Must go activity while in St Crpix
This is by far the most stunning beach on the island. If only it were open for the whole week!
The pictures don't even show the best part of Sandy Point!! It is amazing!! It's best when you get to go and see the Leather back Turtles lay their eggs, and then again when they hack!!
