Monument · Hiking Trail
Get far-flung at Point Udall, the easternmost point of the United States of America. Admire the sundial monument erected in 2000, marking the location where American soil first sees the sunrise. The vantage point offers sweeping views around the island, as well as blue, reef-laden waters along the coast. From the monument, follow an unofficial trail of medium difficulty to the point. • Point Udall is easy to get to - just drive east until the road ends! There is parking right next to the monument, and there are a lot of places for photo ops. I'm not sure why the sign on the...  more »
  • We decided to greet the sunrise while vacationing on the island. We woke at 5:15 am to catch the 6:28 am sunrise. It was about a half-hour drive from our condo. Since it's the easternmost point in...  more »
  • Not much here except for just a breathtaking view of both sides of the island at once. You can actually turn Pt Udall into a nice walk by parking down by the telescope and walking up the hill. If...  more »

  • It's a beautiful peaceful place. I would recommend going during the day to see the beauty. Night would do it no justice. You get to work your way up the mountain and every turn every bend holds an even more breath taking view. I had the pleasure of going while flowers were still in bloom and there was a cool breeze and I loved the sweet salty flavor if the air and smells of beauty. I would go again.
  • We went to see the sunrise and it was awe inspiring. It reminded us of seeing the Russian River spill into the Atlantic around sunset. We really appreciated that the others there didn't have music blaring. Everyone was speaking softly and watching. And it was glorious. After, we hiked the trail to the beaches. The hike wasn't a piece of cake but it was enjoyable. You definitely need water. And it's a long hike. Sunrise is worth it. The graffiti on the sundial was sad.
  • Who’d imagine that the East most point of US is marked by such an Interesting sculpture off the cliff. The point is definitely worth the visit. It will take you 1 min to walk around the place and see everything. Take a few photos and most people move on to the next place. There are quite a few trails near the area, which is more interesting to me. If you are curious and want some hiking, it can be made into a day adventure of visiting Point Udall and hike the mountains and to the beaches. Happy travels
  • Absolutely a must see!!! You are at the very top of the island and the views are breathtaking. There's so much to see just on the drive up that you should stop to take pictures and videos.
  • Point Udall is breath taking. I even hiked down to the edge of rocks and water. Hike to Jack and Isaac’s Beach for the most isolated and peaceful beach experience of your life.
