Point Udall, St. Croix

4.5
#1 of 11 in Trails in U.S. Virgin Islands
Get far-flung at Point Udall, the easternmost point of the United States of America. Admire the sundial monument erected in 2000, marking the location where American soil first sees the sunrise. The vantage point offers sweeping views around the island, as well as blue, reef-laden waters along the coast. From the monument, follow an unofficial trail of medium difficulty to the point. • Went up to be the "first" person in the US to see the sun come up as this is the farthest east you can go on a US territory. Just had to do it. There's a monument there and it's a beautiful view. Don'...  more »

  • Eastern point of the island. Magnificent sunrise. If you are into hiking, walk down to Jack and Issac beach.
  • Awesome place to watch the sunrise. There is a great place to hike to Isaac bay with a trail from the parking lot just before Point Udall. You do have to be cautious and plan ahead. Dont leave anything valuable in your car and leave it unlocked with the windows slightly down..unfortunately it is true there is a problem with car break ins where they break your car window. If you do this you will be just fine ! The hike is a must as the views and beaches are beautiful. Less chance of thieves if you go at sunrise too also its a lot cooler temperature wise too.
  • We visited Point Udall because it is the easternmost point on United States soil. The scenery is unbelievably beautiful here, which gave us another reason to stop. The Millennium Monument is also interesting -- basically a giant sundial -- but I'm taking one star off because of the graffiti which detracts from it. It's definitely worth coming here if you get the opportunity.
  • The drive is scary because of all the twists and turns and really only being able to fit one car on the road, but! worth the visit.
  • Not much to it, but the views are great. Sun dial is interesting

Where to stay in St. Croix

Most accommodations on St. Croix line the island's north shore, with Christiansted and Salt River Bay proving the two most popular settlements. Private villas and condos make up the majority of accommodations there, offering privacy and independence, as well as a touch of luxury. For something a bit less touristy and close to Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge, stay in the western coastal town of Frederiksted.
