Categories: Hiking Trails, Nature & Parks, Outdoor Activities
Inspirock Rating:
4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
Hike to Carambola Tide Pools along a rugged trail, where powerful waves hit the coastline and collect in naturally formed basins. An 8 km (5 mi) round trip, the hike is not for the faint hearted. Beginning with a steep descent into St Croix’s tropical rainforest and thick grassland plains, the route can often be hard to find, with no signage to help you. Make sure to bring a map or check the route with a guide before leaving. When you reach the coast, refresh yourself in the tidal pools and enjoy the wild, untouched scenery that stretches out to the horizon. It’s important to note that if conditions are rough, you should not enter the tidal pools. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen for the hike. A visit to Carambola Tide Pools represents just the start of the adventure when you use our St. Croix vacation planner to plot your vacation.

  • It's about a 45 minute walk from the resort, mainly shaded trail. Definitely worth the trip! The tide pools are stunning.

  • It is beautiful but this place can be very dangerous so be careful. There are strong currents in the pools when the tide is up and the water is rough. They can pull you out to sea easily. Make sure you bring water for the hike in too.
  • Good luck getting here. After about an hour trying to drive to the top, we gave up. I don't think our car would have made it any further. Our condo manager also said there have been many deaths here. Find a tour guide if you are going to do it.
  • During high tide or when the waves are rough, climbing to the tide pools can be very dangerous! The area is difficult to get to, but the tide pools are beautiful and definitely worth the trip.
