Buck Island Reef National Monument, St. Croix
Categories: Islands, Monuments, Nature & Parks, Tourist Spots
Explore the protected barrier reef at Buck Island Reef National Monument, a small island reserve around 2.4 km (1.5 mi) north of Saint Croix. The naturally abundant island and surrounding waters--3.6 sq km (1.4 sq mi) total--have enjoyed protection under U.S. law since 1961. An elkhorn coral barrier reef surrounds a large portion of the island, creating an ecosystem for a large variety of fish, reef sharks, and rays. Snorkel around the reef, following an underwater trail signposting the natural inhabitants of each section. Back on dry land, rest up on one of the pristine beaches and take a stroll along the main walking routes. Went to Buck island for a day trip from St. Croix. Absolutely breathtaking aqua water and white Sandy beaches. Beautiful snorkeling with many parrotfish, wrasse, barracuda. Don't miss!
Absolutely breathtaking! A must do on the island! Carribean Sea Adventures is the way to go! They were great!
We did a half day snorkel trip to Buck Island--walked the beach on the one side of the island and then snorkeled the other side. Beautiful and unspoiled.
This is where I want to be when I'm at work. The environment is absolutely stunning. A breathtaking preserve with great snorkeling. The coral has seen better days, but it's still worth visiting. The wildlife makes for fantastic opportunities of species observation.

One of the prettiest beaches I have ever seen. Snorkeled and saw some pretty smaller fish.
