Mahogany Run Golf Course, North Side
Categories: Golf Courses, Outdoor Activities
Tee off a few rounds at Mahogany Run Golf Course, the only golf course on the island. Try holes 13, 14, and 15 (aka "The Devil's Triangle") for a real challenge. Designed in 1980 by golf architects George and Tom Fazio, the course covers 44 hectares (110 acres) and is also a hotbed for indigenous nature--if you're lucky, you may spot some mongooses, iguanas, or black-billed parrots roaming around. Head to the bar and restaurants for refreshments after you've worked up a sweat. If you haven't brought your own gear, the course offers cart and club rental. My husband and I played once during the week we spent on St Thomas and I am so glad we did. We had our own clubs, and I believe we paid $100 each including cart. They do not allow you to walk and it d... read more »
Came back to St. Thomas and brought my limited skills back to mahogany run. It was very hot and the course was rather empty. I find it still to be challenging as the fairways are narrow. The 18th hole... read more »
We played here last week and really enjoyed our time at Mahogany Run Golf Course. The course is very challenging, but loads of fun. The views are spectacular. We played the last several holes with Edw... read more »
For $125 the course is extremely overpriced. The tees and fairways are in awful condition as were the greens. The course layout is such that you have many blind tee shots. We left after 6 holes it was that bad. Also a word in the taxi give another customer commented. We too asked for a taxi back to the hotel. The point here is pre-arrange your taxi ride home. Our taxi has working door handles but when going for my seatbelt the driver said "don't work, just hold onto it." The car could do a max 5mph going up moderately steep hills. Turning corners the car creaked so bad I was worried either the wheels or the entire axles would fall off. Again arrange your own taxi pick up back or let the course handle it and take your life in your hands.
The staff was so friendly. I was there on a non cruise ship day and felt like I had a private GC. The greens were excellent.
Absolutely worse golf course we have ever played! Not just while on vacation, but ever. WAY overpriced!! If you want quality golf, this is not your place. Spend a few more dollars and go to Puerto Rico and play. The fairways (if you want to call them that) were hard as a rock and very little green grass. Nothing would stick on the greens; like asphalt. We rented clubs and they were marginal (WELL used). Most "fairways" were severely tilted one way or another. Several of our shots rolled from off one side of the fairway, completely across the fairway and OB on the other side. Extreme rip off of money. Will NEVER play it again. Then they called us a "Taxi". Basically some dude in an old beat up piece of crap car. The door handle came off in my hand...must have been one of their buddies.
Golf course was playing very hard. Fairways were not holding any shots, even when you hit it where the course guide told you. They had two holes with great views of the water, but other than that I was not impressed. I was also told that the greens were being punched the week I would be there, so my rentals would be free or I would get 25% off if I decided to bring my clubs. I chose to just rent, but when we got to the course they only punched one green and would not honor the free rentals. I was told they would give me a voucher to rent them free next time I played, but that will not happen. Two stars only because of holes 13 and 14.
Watch No Face
What can I say... It's the only golf course on the island. Lots of green!!!
