Ascend 99 Steps, the landmark step street of charming Charlotte Amalie. The street, which actually contains 103 steps, is just one of dozens that rise up the hill from the harbor area. Dating back to the 18th century, the steps were built with bricks used as ballast on the Danish merchant ships that visited the harbor. • We walked up the steps on the walking historical tour of the town. It was an easy walk and the view from the top was really great. I'm not really sure why it is a famous set of stairs but it should be...  more »
  • Honestly, I can climb stairs almost anywhere. If you have limited time, I would no spend it here. If you run out of things to do, go ahead and climb. Honestly, with access to the beautiful beaches ava...  more »
  • Ok, so its not 99 steps - its a bit more. But, it is worth it for the view of the bay. When we went, everything up there was closed. But, it was still good to get a bit of exercise and enjoy the view.

  • U guys need to see dis place it is awesome .wen I went up da steps I thought I wouldn't reach bit once u geh to da top it's breathtaking
  • Fun but small attraction, just so happened the 99 steps leads up to Blackbeard's Castle which is only open Tues. & Wed. and we were there on Mon. still worth the climb to see the view from the top and the old hotel.
  • There are 102 steps. You can climb up from downtown (follow the signs), or take a taxi to the Blackbeard Castle Inn and climb down. If you are with small kids, definitely do the latter.
  • Great, smaller, attraction where the treasure is at the top. Great photo opportunities.
  • Definitely a thing to do in between island hopping and enjoying the beaches.
