  • We travelled here from Dashoguz, not too long a journey on a good road. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site and well deserves that appellation. In the middle ages this site used to be known as Gurgan...  more »
  • One of the three UNESCO World Heritage sites in Turkmenistan. Interesting and unusual ancient architecture capital of Khorezm. The oldest building of the Kyrkmolla fortress, the most notable-high Minaret of Kutlug Timur minaret, the most beautiful Turabek-Khanum Mausoleum, as well many other various mausoleums.

  • The visit to Kunya Urgench from Darvaza is a martyrdom by the almost 5 hours drive on tracks and out impassable tracks. We thought that it would us to break back and the neck. Arriving there just are 3 remains that are worth the penalty including a minaret. Then we learned that there is another road which turns a 175 Kms but minimum is paved. It is quite dispensable. An important note is the land border crossing between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan by Dasoguz is simply terrible. It is a border even cold war with neutral zone of approximately 1 Km which have to cross on foot dragging suitcases, also process in Turkmenistan are tremendous opening all suitcases and bags, touching everything and making a thousand questions about drugs and "money"... All very unpleasant, slow and terribly tired
