(4.8/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
At Cappadocia Cave Dwellings, explore the ancient underground settlements hewn into the soft rocky landscape once used by early Christians to hide from Roman persecutors. This chamber and tunnel complex features networks of living quarters, stables, storehouses, and places of worship. Some of the villages and towns have up to eight storeys concealed underground. See the well-preserved examples of Byzantine frescoes in cave chapels dug by Christian monks in the 7th century. Spend a night in one of the cave hotels in a nearby village to help get an appreciation for this type of residence. • The landscape is really surreal, both from the air, with a tour of the BALLON, as on Earth. This landscape of Cappadocia (Central Anatolia, a short flight with TURKIS AIRLINES from Istanbul), surprises and is unique in the world, I think. I did this by air and by land. These unique rock formations are today still busy, but its origin dates back to the proto-hititas. Seen entire civilizations were born and disappear. Do not forget to visit in your first or next trip to Turkey.
