Uchisar Castle, Uchisar

(4.5/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
The natural rock citadel of Uchisar Castle offers a panoramic view over the surrounding landscape of valleys, mountains, and towns. The tallest fairy chimney in Cappadocia is carved with numerous rooms, tunnels, stairs, rock tombs, and a large water cistern. Notice the millstone doors at the entrances of the rooms, which used to control access to the castle. Today most of the rooms on the north side serve as pigeon houses. Note the simple Byzantine graves on top of the castle, which have been weathered and ransacked. Local women selling traditional souvenirs typically line the road that leads to the castle. Put Uchisar Castle and other Uchisar attractions into our Uchisar tour planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Lovely place to climb up and view the sunset. On the first day, we reached after closing time, so spent our time sitting below the castle. We came again the next day and climbed to the top. It is not ...  more »
  • To climb to the top of the castle was easier than I thought. The stairs are very comfortable. Sunsets are delightful to watch.

  • At approximately 1400metres, the view from is marvelous but the climbing can get a little tiring. Theres not much to see inside the castle, we know that its been used as cemetery in Roman times but none of that is exhibited. Still recommended just for the view.
  • Are you interested in climbing? There are many interesting places to explore. Uchisar castle is a rock larded by rooms, chaples, dovecotes, where people from nearby villages were hidding once the enemy hordes came to their neighbourhood. I have fear of heights, so sometimes it was harsh for me, but it was worth it. I recommend!
  • Highest place in surrounding where you can overlook complete area all around. Pigeon valley is also near on which you can have a look. Hot air balloon also passes near this place. Once on top of it, you can look up to Gerome. Ticket is 7 Lira. Not much of construction of castle is intact now due to erosion etc but due to view from top of castle it is recommended for visit. Dolmus shall charge 2 Lira from Gerome.
  • Interesting castle on a karstic hill, very picturesque. Birdseye view of the town. The castle is also good photographic opportunity from a distance._
  • Better views looking at it. Not much info anywhere
