At the site of a prominent ancient city, Patara Ruins preserve the crumbling remains of a parliament building, cultural facilities, and public baths. Also known as the birthplace of St. Nicholas, this city is responsible for the legend of Santa Claus. The 7th-century Arab raids brought devastation and transformed the metropolis into a village that eventually became a naval base. As you walk among its remains, look for tombs, pillars, a well-preserved theater, and monuments, such as one of the oldest lighthouses in the world. The area is also known for sheltering a vast number of birds. Buses pass here throughout the day.
