Mevlana Museum, Konya
Categories: History Museums, Historic Sites, Museums, Tourist Spots
Mevlana Museum features a green mausoleum and the original lodge of the 13th-century mystic Sufi Muslim order, the whirling dervishes. The museum houses musical instruments, conical caps, and robes belonging to Mevlana, the founder of the sect. You'll also find illuminated Korans, a 9th-century gazelle-skin Christian manuscript, and a valuable silk prayer rug bearing a picture of the Kaaba. The interior of the mausoleum is ornamented with Islamic script and enameled reliefs. Behind a 16th-century silver gate, look for the tomb of Mevlana covered in velvet cloth embroidered with gold. Ethnographical exhibits in the dervish cells illustrate their daily lives. Be aware that the complex can get very crowded, since it is still a place of pilgrimage. Magnificent place! He was a great poet and Sufi mystic and no! He was not a Turk, nor were any of his ancestors! He was born a native Persian, grew in a Persian-speaking area and moved to Karaman (today Turkey) only because of the Mogol invasion. 90% of his poetry is in Persian, some in Arabic and only a couple of couplets in Turkish. Despite the great tomb Turkey has built for this great man, it's a shame they're claiming his legacy to be submitted under the name of Turkey in UNESCO!

One of the top attractions in Konya. The Mevlâna Museum, is the mausoleum of Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, a Persian Sufi mystic also known as Mevlâna or Rumi. It was also the lodge of the Mevlevi order (the whirling dervishes). An entrance free museum, worth a visit.

I love Konya city because that is the house of Moulana Rome imam jala
5 stars !! Go and see for yourself. I doubt it very very much that a person can give a bad review.
