  • On recommendation from a friend. At the entrance there's a Council car park, take the elevator up to the Museum $10 equivalent free with your car, you can enter a city vehicle or car park you can walk 500 meters take the elevator up somewhere outside. If you have Museum passes or input 35 TL per person. Im very great Museum the Museum inside that didn't like me and my wife were ecstatic. Except for the Museum closed a lane will have many places to visit and within at least 3 hours. Inside the Museum there is a cafeteria operated by but we didn't experience. At the entrance you can rent money $10 headset mobile Guide. By looking at the underlying works there is surprisingly quiet, very few visitors.

  • Stunning and fascinating spot. Beware of the parking scam. They insist you park on the overflow park near the main road and take a tractor shuttle to the museum which is very close. The main car park is fine. Just a scam to get 10 lira out of unsuspecting tourists. Dishonesty of it takes the shine off an otherwise brilliant site.
  • Amazing place you literally smell the history around.Great buildings antique statues...you have to see it as soon as possible. Its underrated deserves more attention than ephesus troya hierapolis...
  • You should visit early this fasinating place. It has wonderful ancient articafts. Love this ancient city.
  • One of the most impressive ancient sites in Turkey. Sculptures from 1-2 c. AD. are well preserved and kept in a nice museum nearby the site. The city was recently listed as one of the UNESCO world heritage site.
  • Aphrodisias enjoys both an unbelievable historical richness and a beautiful natural scenery where all green tones from poplar to olive trees are present. The city was famous not only as a philosophy and medicine center but above all as a school of sculpture: the masterpieces realized there have been spread all over the Roman Empire and found back in the most popular temples such as in Didyma. Aphrodisias was a Carian town named after the goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite, whose origins date back from the Hittite and Phrygian cultures. Lots of Aphrodite's characteristics are similar to those of the Ephesus Artemis but cannot be compared with the Greek Aphrodite. Aphrodisias knew her golden years during the Roman period as it was located alongside a main trade road. Even after the upcoming of Christians, Aphrodisias remained an important pagan center. Under the Byzantines, who renamed it "Stavropolis" (Town of the Cross), Aphrodisias became the residence of the bishop of Caria. When Aphrodisias had been conquered by the Turks, it received its current name "Geyre", most probably a deformation of "Caria". Today Aphrodisias is not only visited for its beautiful site but also for its opulent sculpture museum. During the 35 years continuous excavations, the temple of Aphrodite, the amphitheater, the thermal baths with their inlaid marble floors, the agora and the stadium, one of the best preserved and biggest in the world, have been brought to daylight.
