Landmark Tourist Spot
View the Ottoman-style tower that has come to represent the city at Saat Kulesi (Clock Tower). Built in 1901 to mark the 25th anniversary of Abdülhamid II's reign, the 25 m (85 ft) high tower was then gifted to the city by the German Emperor, Wilhelm II. Notice the Moorish themes of the iron-and-lead structure, and the four fountains that are aligned around the base. The town's prominent landmark rises from one of the main pedestrian spaces, Konak Square, so check out the surrounding shops or stop to feed the pigeons here. Where to stay in Izmir

The seaside town of İzmir caters to a range of budgets in terms of accommodations. You'll find most options concentrated within a few blocks, conveniently close to the waterfront, shops, restaurants, and nightclubs. These include moderately priced three- and four-star hotels and a number of budget-friendly hostels, as well as some guesthouses a little bit north and south of the downtown core. More expensive, upscale hotels sit a little bit east of the city core, right on the idyllic coast.

  • Just a clock tower in the centre of İzmir .It is a gift for tjhe Sultan in 19. century in order to celebrate his 25. year in the trone..  more »
  • This is known to be the centre of Izmir and everyone uses it as a meeting point. I like the pigeons that fly around there. You can admire the sea or go and do some shopping.  more »
  • Just a clock tower & nothing else. Crowded, can rarely find a bench to sit on. can sit by the see and see the sunset (see many locals and tourists doing this). can easily miss.  more »

  • Probably the best sight in Izmir. Don't reserve too kuch time for it.
  • It's a very nice building that gets lit up at night, which makes it even more picturesque. It is in the middle of a big open square, near the sea side.
  • Landmark of the city. A must. Some historic parts of the clock has been stolen during the post coup attempt protests. A pity.
  • Nice clock tower 25 meters high, in Konak square. One of the last structures of the Ottoman empire, since the beginning of the 20th century. Relaxing atmosphere, go for a walk. Recommended._
  • I saw more beautiful ones
