Zeyrek Mosque, Istanbul

3.6
Tour Zeyrek Mosque to see one of the only Byzantine churches to survive Ottoman conquest. As with other Turkish religious sites like the famous Hagia Sofia, this mosque has undergone many changes over the centuries as different empires reigned the capitol. Empress Eirene Komnena originally built a monastery here in the 1100s and dedicated the structure to Christ Pantokrator. During the Ottoman Empire after the fall of Constantinople, the church and adjacent buildings were converted into a school and, later, a mosque. Today you can visit this site in Istanbul's Fatih district for a glimpse into past empires, which are evident in the architecture that has survived several centuries. • For several years now in winter, visit Istanbul, and every time there is something to see for the first time. This time after the restoration of the Zeyrek mosque opened. Originally is a Byzantine Monastery pantocrator, outwardly unusual structure consisting of 3 's churches. This year had the opportunity to view the Interior of the mosque. Very impressed. Near aqueduct, which supplied water to the entire Constantinople, so that in one outing, you can see both. Very recommend.

  • The Blue Mosque, if its name is not true, is a whole building designed with a circular image burn. Everyone who prays is a devout and humility prayer. Give people a sense of calm and comfort. It is worth experiencing one of these views and not wasting this trip.

  • It was good to see that the restoration of the main prayer hall of the mosque is completed and we were able to go inside. A very good job has been done and the artwork and masonry are very neat. The timberwork involved with establishing stairs and the Sultan's Viewing Area was nicely made. It was a Tuesday morning and plenty of children were busy learning about the Koran. Ongoing restoration work is happening on other rooms adjacent to this prayer hall and nearby.
  • Very popular Mosjid.
