Trip Planner:   Europe  /  Turkey  /  Istanbul  /  Yeni Camii
Perched on a hill and overlooking the harbor, Yeni Camii features two minarets plus 66 domes and semi-domes arranged in a pyramid. The building is also known as the "Queen Mothers' Mosque," since one queen mother commissioned it in 1597, and another completed it in 1663. Walk over a large courtyard past an ornamental ablution fountain to reach the entrance. Blue, green, and white tiles decorate the interior of the mosque, along with gold leaf and carved marble. Notice a gilded screen in the northeast corner of the gallery, behind which sultans attended services. Six sultans are buried in the adjacent mausoleum. If there's time, stop by the spice bazaar nearby. Plan your Yeni Camii visit and explore what else you can see and do in Istanbul using our Istanbul trip planner.

  • It is free to go inside, we couldn’t see the rooftop and the walls were covered with paper. It was under construction, I’m so sorry, I would like to see it  more »
  • Probably the highlight of our trip. Slightly off the tourist route so fun getting there and much less crowded than other attractions when you arrive. The Mosque is massive but more significantly...  more »
  • Yeni Çamii or New Mosque is still under renovation for more than one year, but still there is a place for thousands to enter and pray in. We went for Friday prayer. Mosque is closed for visitors...  more »

  • One of the greatest mosque in Europe. The outside of the building is huge and aesthetically good, while the inside has a very minimalistic architecture. It was made on purpose by the great Architect Sinan, emphasizing that people must be decent and honourable looking from outside, however, people also should be "humble" as a personality character. The mixture of these characteristics will make people respectful.
  • The New Mosque is actually quite old, similar but just newer than the other mosques hence the name. Like most of the other historic mosque sites, this one is also being renovated. I am not sure whether it is because of the Hajj period or whether it is the norm, but there are 'programs' before/after the prayers.
  • New Mosque is under renovation right now and so closed to visitors. You can go inside to pray, but the space is limited, no ac. İf you are the person who admires all the Ottoman Mosques, it is a must to see, though....
  • Lovely Masjid located close to the Tram station. Currently being renovated.
  • Good place right there near every place should say small but good service and good atendence.
