  • This beautiful Tower is located in the gardens of the Campus of Istanbul University. The Tower is still used today as a watchtower. If not you, access to it, but the gate to see her.

  • After the Janissary Corps was removed in 1826, By the order of Mahmut, the old palace (the area where the rectorate building of today's Istanbul University is located) started to be used as the Serasker Office. During this period, a wooden fire tower (Harik Köşkü) was built at the site where it was used today. This tower was built in 1828 by Vezir Aga Huseyin Pasha, and Balyan's family, Senekerim Balyan, was re-built with a mysterious tower. In 1849, the first part of the building was replaced with the wooden part above the section where the watchmen were found. During this renovation, the fire tower functions as one of the three honorable minarets of the Süleymaniye mosque. The tower suffered extensive damage in the 1889 earthquake. The tower continued its activity until the declaration of the Republic, 1923. From now on the building has been used only for the weather forecast announcement. The monument has been renovated twice in 1997 and 2010. The renovation in 2010 was realized within the scope of the Istanbul 2010 Cultural Capital Project. Today the building is used for daily weather forecasts (yellow light, fog, red light, snow, green light, rain and blue light, open air) and tourist visits
  • I had a chance to visit this wonderful place and took lots of photos. Hopefully one day they open up for tourists.
  • Do not waste your time to go see it up close. Because you cant. But it looks nice at night cos it's lit up.
  • it is such a pity that tourist can not get in. All we can do is just seeing from outside of university. PITY!!
  • The university ground is accessible to the public from the Beyazıt square (sout of the university), just tell the security guard you are a tourist. There is even an information panel about the tower, just like the others around the city. However, the tower itself is not accessible for going up.
