Sultanahmet District, Istanbul

(4.8/5 based on 12,000+ reviews on the web)
Boasting many of the city's most important sites, from Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque to the Grand Bazaar, Sultanahmet District serves as the historic and tourist center of Istanbul. This old district is bordered on three sides by bodies of water--the Golden Horn, Bosphorus, and Sea of Marmara--which is why it's commonly called the "Walled City." While today the quarter is only part of this expansive and sprawling city, it used to make up almost the entirety of Constantinople. Enjoy a plethora of sights while walking through the concentrated center or take a Bosphorus cruise from the shores of this peninsula. Take a look at our Istanbul family vacation planner to schedule your visit to Sultanahmet District and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • I liked this place. In the center of the fountain. On the one hand Al Sofia, on the other hand the Blue Mosque. Fried white bread tank immediately.

  • -walking through this area allows you to see how normal life in Istanbul, is taking the time to see how to rotate itinerant vendors, selling food in the floating boats or cross the bridge opposite is highly recommended, a visit to the mesquita is more natural than the other, see people washing your feet and enjoying their religion is very touching , good restaurants and if you touch them as us in ramadan a unique experience! life goes to another rhythm on this area, definitely have to walk by here!
