Sogukcesme Sokak, Istanbul

(50+ reviews on the web)
Landmark
Brimming with colors and culture, the quaint cobbled street of Sogukcesme Sokak features rows of replicated Ottoman-style houses. The nine structures were introduced in the 1980s to replace the originals that once stood there for over two centuries. Don't let the lack of authenticity bother you: the street oozes charm, and the houses now serve as boutique heritage hotels. These accommodations remain true to the 19th-century style, decorated in period furniture and decor. Stroll along the entirely pedestrian lane, named for the fountain in the park at one end. Little boutiques lie tucked amid the historical houses, selling handpainted ceramics, clothing, and hookahs. Put Sogukcesme Sokak on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Istanbul family vacation planner.
