Sehzade Mehmet Mosque, Istanbul
(4.7/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
Admire the 16th-century Ottoman imperial design of Sehzade Mehmet Mosque, built as a memorial to the son of a sultan. As you enter the site, you'll first tour the outer courtyard with a fountain. Continue inside and look up to view a ceiling with five domes, each beautifully decorated in typical Turkish symmetrical patterns. Wear conservative clothing when you visit, and be sure to take a walk around the peaceful gardens surrounding the building. Put Sehzade Mehmet Mosque on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Istanbul vacation planner.

  • Medium sized mosque. Located away from the main tourist trails, so there's not a lot of tourists.

  • Lovely mosque. I visited in last 10 days of Ramadan. Unlike other mosques, they do the khatm (ختم) in taraweeh and also tahajud.
  • One of the historical mosques in the area and it's very calm and not very crowded. Also it's built by Mimar Sinan as many mosques in Istanbul are.
  • Another masterpiece by Mimar Sinan, the mosque is located on the hill
  • Another beautiful mosque in Istanbul, not known to many tourist, so it isn't crowded.
  • Amazingly beautiful. Very calm to walk and say some prayers
