Pera Museum, Istanbul

4.7
#16 of 88 in Museums in Istanbul
Get lost in the art-filled halls of Pera Museum, whose numerous galleries put a special focus on Orientalism in the 19th century. The building itself took over the space of the old Hotel Bristol, founded in 1893, and was renovated to feature a Victorian-era facade. On the first floor, stop to admire collections of colored tiles and pottery, as well as Anatolian weights and measures. From here, continue upstairs to see more than 300 works by European, Ottoman, and Turkish masters, including Osman Hamdi Bey. Several exhibits change regularly, so look for something new each time you visit. Put Pera Museum into our Istanbul tour itinerary builder app and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Each floor of the Museum is a separate concept and very elegant works of art. Osman Hamdi Bey, the famous turtle trainer was very impressive to see closer. The exhibition was a great success with all the works, look at me. Living beautiful us experiences thanks to the Pera Museum.

  • Outstanding museum. Thoroughly enjoyed both the contemporary art and permanent exhibitions here, especially the one on Istanbul's seaside history - it was so well-curated and interesting. Was also proud to see a slice of home in the exhibition featuring Singaporean photographers :) and of course you can't miss the famous Tortoise Trainer painting as well!
  • Şehrin ortasında bir vaha. They offer amazing exhibitions. It is an intellectual oasis. Try the the permanent exhibiton.
  • Visiting hours Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 - 19:00 Sunday 12:00 - 18:00 The museum is closed on Mondays. Long Friday Pera Museum is open every Friday from 18:00 to 22:00 free of charge. Special days The museum is closed on the first day of New Year's Eve of Sugar and Sacrifice holidays.
  • I quite enjoyed the museum: on the various floors they have a historical artefact museum, medieval artworks, and modern art. I found the visit well worth it.
  • The Pera Museum, which opened its doors in early June 2005, is the first step of a comprehensive cultural endeavor that the Suna and Inan Kiraç Foundation has launched at this distinguished venue in the city for the purpose of providing cultural service on a variety of levels.
