Mihrimah Sultan Camii, Istanbul

4.8
One of Istanbul's prominent landmarks, Mihrimah Sultan Camii stands on the peak of one of the city's seven hills. Designed by Mimar Sinan, one of the most celebrated architects of the 16th century, this imposing yet elegant structure ranks among the finest achievements of Ottoman architecture. Built for Suleyman the Magnificent's favorite daughter, the mosque complex once included a school, Turkish baths, tombs, and several shops. Step inside to admire the mosque's huge dome supported by four arches, and pay close attention to the building's three rows of windows, providing abundant light and infusing the interior with a bright atmosphere. • Outside such an impregnable, and the inside is very beautiful. Got there accidentally. You can stop by tram, and further down along the walls of Constantinople. See one minaret, it is here. Admit to the second floor. Next Street Cafe, the granddaddy of the owner. Delicious jacket and kebabs. And not expensive. Afiyet olsun

  • Babs can be reached on foot through the (uphill, but near nice) also go through of a martyr from edirnekapı Metrobus. Large and spacious inside and very courtyard saw restoration likewise. There's too many Windows in very aydınçn and can be seen at the halfway point. At the same time in the back of the mosque (full stop) is first entered the army during the conquest and development..

  • If you knew this love story before you visited the mosque, you would come to appreciate this place of worship even more. Inside it feels as feminine and beautiful as the daughter of Suleyman the Magni...  more »

  • Beautifully restored and maintained mosques and surrounding buildings. I loved the abundance of natural lighting inside and the brilliant colours in the stained glass. It is always an terrific feature when you see the huge pattern in the centre of the main prayer hall carpet, just like Fatih Mosque. Well worth a visit.
  • One of Architect Sinan's mosques. It has a lovely story. I really like the domes and it's place near the walls. I've heard there is a twin of it in the anatolian part of İstanbul.
  • A historical Mosque at the Edirnekapi. Praying my all Juma prayers there.
  • Alhamdulilah Happiness is when your home is next to this mosque I love being in Istanbul and I enjoyed feel full iman praying to this historical mosque
  • Amazingly beautiful mosque that is in a interesting location. The area seems a bit rough but it's safe. I think this mosque was built, this area was the outskirts of Istanbul. Hence the big historical border wall next to the mosque.

Where to stay in Istanbul

The bustling downtown core of old Istanbul is the popular choice among tourists wanting a short walking distance to the city's biggest attractions. Here you'll find hostel-style accommodations and reasonably priced and traditionally decorated hotels, as well as bed and breakfasts and inns with views overlooking the sea. Though often the most affordable, accommodations in the old city can be very overrun with tourists and street solicitors. If you seek a more relaxed stay, consider lodging near Taksim Square. This new, trendy neighborhood is a short 15-20 minute ride from the old city, but puts you closer to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Though the newer area of the city is a bit more upscale, you'll also find moderately priced hotels and some hostels. Look for luxury hotels in the western suburbs close to the airport, overlooking the banks of Bosphorus.
