KIz Kulesi, Istanbul

Observation Deck · Hidden Gem · Historic Site
KIz Kulesi represents a place shrouded in history and legend. The most popular story says that the tower at the southern entrance of the Bosporus was built by an emperor as a sanctuary for his daughter, whose death was prophesized by an oracle. In fact, the original structure dates back to the 12th century, when it was built to house one side of the famous chain system used by the Byzantines to close off the entrance to the strait. Today it houses a cafe and restaurant, and is a well-known landmark that has appeared on everything from the Turkish banknotes to James Bond movies. Small boats that take you to the tower regularly depart from the city's Asian coast. Make KIz Kulesi part of your personalized Istanbul itinerary using our Istanbul trip builder website.

  • This is place was really far away from where we stay but my fiancée really wanted to see that once she heard the story of this place. Absolutely amazing structure. The weather was cold but we got tea....  more »
  • There is nothing inside. It is more enjoyable to watch from the seaside. However, if you want to go, it is expensive. It's even more pleasant to watch in the evening, grab your coffee and spend hours.  more »

  • It’s a great place, especially for a romantic walk at the Bosporus. Looks great at night from Asian side looking at the tower whilst across Bosporus you see all the sightseeing highlights. I don’t recommend the restaurant. Although it is a nice experience to be taken by boat and the interior is nice, the food is below average for a high price. Very sad, as its just focusing on tourists and do not serve the service and food experience, a romantic dinner deserves.
  • You are not only lover of Istanbul 🥰
  • It's a beautiful place to visit. The tower and surrounds are not as vibrant as last year but that is due to corona. The restaurant doesn't seem to be open for business at the moment but you can still get a drink at the top of the tower. Beautiful views all around.
  • Beautiful This building Used as a symbol for the great city of Istanbul, ‏the Old story of building this beautiful tower: An ancient king dreamed about his lovely daughter death by a snake bite so he decided to isolate her in the middle of the sea far away from any risk ‏he built the tower and put her there ‏unfortunately the girl died when she received a gift as a basket of fruits with a snake hiding inside it and the snake attacked the beautiful girl . People use this story to remember that what ever you do you will never be able to avoid your destiny Any how it is very romantic to watch it from Üsküdar in Asian side of the City
  • A place accessible by boat, on the Asian side. You don't have to wait a long time for your transportation because the boats go and come back every 10-15 minutes. A pleasant location.
