  • We were surprised to find such an interesting mosque right at the end of street with lots of restaurants and pubs. Nice to experience when walking this area.  more »
  • The architecture is just breath taking. Might not be as well known as the other big name mosques in Istanbul, but still worth a visit.  more »
  • This is one of my favorite mosques in the city. It is beutifully renovated and a pleasure to see the European and Oriental architecture and the majesty of the Ottoman times. There is a Hamam around....  more »

  • It is above medium sized mosque was built in 1580 by the famous Sinan engineer. It is indeed a beautiful piece of art and it has some attached service buildings such as a Hammam.

  • Commissioned by the Kilic Ali Pasha, an ambitious 16th century Italian privateer who converted to Islam, and was named Uluç Ali Reis. He rose up the ranks from slave to captain of his ship, later going on to become the Kapudan-i Derya (Grand Admiral) of the Ottoman navy. The name Kılıç (meaning sword) was conferred upon him on his appointment. Rumours have it that when he announced he would endow a mosque, his rival, the Grand Vizier Rustem Pasha (who commissioned Rustem Pasha Mosque), said that, "Since he is the admiral, let him build his mosque on the sea." The ever-determined Kilic Ali Pasha simply had an artificial island built in the Bosphorus strait, and the mosque went on top of that. It is one of the cleanest mosques in Istanbul.
  • It is one of the Great Architect, Mimar Sinan's works. It has a very interesting story of Captain Kilic Ali Pasha, captain of War Lepanto. The mosque is also known as Don Quixote Mosque because of the rumors about Cervantes(it is believed that he had worked in the construction, never proven though..) Right next to it, there are hamams and külliye (educational complex) which belong to the same Kilic Ali Paşa facility of the time.
  • Very clean place...it gives you a very good vibe!!
