4.2
#13 of 129 in Shopping in Istanbul
Shop for lamps, traditional clothing, carpets, scarves, spices, and more at Kapali Carsi, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. Home to over 3,000 shops spread across 61 covered streets, construction of this grand bazaar began in 1455 after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople. Explore the stalls squeezed into the small tunnels as you bargain with shopkeepers for a range of items. The inner and outer walls are filled with 44 cellars, vaulted rooms that do not have external openings, but which are filled with sunlight that enters through the rectangular windows placed beneath the roof. Avoid getting lost in the maze of stalls by bringing long-range radios if you are traveling with a group, and keep track of the door numbers of the shops you are entering and exiting from. The bazaar is easily accessible by tram. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Kapali Carsi by using our Istanbul road trip tool .

  • The Grand Bazaar is magical! It is a place that you can not miss! A huge and ancient building which involves in its particular atmosphere, making it a unique place. Thousands of stores. Jewelry with gold medals that shine and dazzle, carpets, ceramics, clothing, leathers, colorful handicrafts and mainly people who glimpsed her warmth and hospitality in every transaction. Undoubtedly it is a must see in Istanbul.

  • Although the Bazaar and not so huge, next to it is still a huge number of different shops. Prices in the Bazaar is very good. Mainly sold gold/silver, t-shirts/Polo/Jeans/khudi (forgery under the brands), shoes (forgery under the brands), bags and souvenirs. All the stores you can bargain, somewhere inferior good, somewhere not very, but discounts are doing all

  • Another and another and another Bazaar, Istanbul is full of posts shops and markets where you can buy from the most typical to the more exotic, admittedly, that after a while you start getting tired of seeing more or less the same but worth integrating haggle and buy something, I recommend the Turkish delight. The pity is that the custom of haggling is being lost and there is more fixed prices. Miss in the market and enjoy

  • I think everybody must visit grandbazaar who is trip to İstanbul, There are more than 3.000 shops ,it is oldest shopping mall which one is ancient ,you can spend your all time in a day.. have a nice fun to you..
  • The roofed market is one of the attractions of Istanbul that you can not avoid, especially if you are in a tourist group. Always crowded, items are overpriced and most of them are made in China. Some decades ago it would be a very interesting market with eastern goods, but not anymore. Colorful, vivid and noisy, if you have time to spend, pay a visit._
  • Awesome place. A good place to go as a tourist

Where to stay in Istanbul

The bustling downtown core of old Istanbul is the popular choice among tourists wanting a short walking distance to the city's biggest attractions. Here you'll find hostel-style accommodations and reasonably priced and traditionally decorated hotels, as well as bed and breakfasts and inns with views overlooking the sea. Though often the most affordable, accommodations in the old city can be very overrun with tourists and street solicitors. If you seek a more relaxed stay, consider lodging near Taksim Square. This new, trendy neighborhood is a short 15-20 minute ride from the old city, but puts you closer to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Though the newer area of the city is a bit more upscale, you'll also find moderately priced hotels and some hostels. Look for luxury hotels in the western suburbs close to the airport, overlooking the banks of Bosphorus.
