4.2/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web
Shop for lamps, traditional clothing, carpets, scarves, spices, and more at Kapali Carsi, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. Home to over 3,000 shops spread across 61 covered streets, construction of this grand bazaar began in 1455 after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople. Explore the stalls squeezed into the small tunnels as you bargain with shopkeepers for a range of items. The inner and outer walls are filled with 44 cellars, vaulted rooms that do not have external openings, but which are filled with sunlight that enters through the rectangular windows placed beneath the roof. Avoid getting lost in the maze of stalls by bringing long-range radios if you are traveling with a group, and keep track of the door numbers of the shops you are entering and exiting from. The bazaar is easily accessible by tram. Put Kapali Carsi into our Istanbul trip itinerary maker to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Istanbul.

  • enjoy the shopping in grand bazar .. the spirit of the past .. but u should argue with the prices and u should be clever ...
  • Overpriced compare to other bazaars.
  • Interesting architecture monument. Very unusual for Europe.
  • The roofed market is one of the attractions of Istanbul that you can not avoid, especially if you are in a tourist group. Always crowded, items are overpriced and most of them are made in China. Some decades ago it would be a very interesting market with eastern goods, but not anymore. Colorful, vivid and noisy, if you have time to spend, pay a visit.
  • Awesome place!
  • it's beautiful (nice walk), but do your shopping elsewhere, because the proces are too inflated
