Kadirga Hamam, Istanbul

3.9
#9 of 61 in Spas in Istanbul
Try out traditional Turkish baths at Kadirga Hamam, a cobblestone and brick complex of hot and cold rooms that dates back to 1506 CE. Rebuilt and renovated three times before 1952, it features a completely authentic atmosphere that is popular with the locals. Head to a steam room for a good sweat or refresh yourself in a cool zone. You can lounge on an ottoman with a glass of tea while waiting to be invited to a private room, where the masseuses will give you a traditional scrubbing. This hamam offers separate male and female sections. To plan Istanbul vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.

  • Erdal is the man who made me feel very nice and calm. All the service of the place and of the massage was fantastic and I will be here soon.  more »

  • It was my first Turkish bath and definitely a great experience! The price is super reasonable (75TL not the 65TL I saw in other reviews, but it's listed so it didn't feel like they were ripping me off). Although the building has seen better years, it's clean and still in good condition. The scrubbing is hard, not skin-breaking hard, but not the relaxing kind, it's the squeaky-clean kind. If you have a condition, definitely say something, otherwise, enjoy! In my case they washed my hair too, and I'm supposed to use sulfate free shampoos (no idea if theirs was sulfate free) but it was too late anyway so if you have special requests (like mine) then be sure to bring your own. Also, I'd recommend bringing a lotion to put on after the bath b/c the skin feels a little tight, super clean, but it would've been nice to have. All in all, loved the experience and will definitely visit again before leaving. Lastly, English is very minimal but you really don't need much.
  • My first Turkish bath ever and I was so lucky to try it at this great local place! I like the basic and the local shops , friendly staff even if you don't speak turkish. The price was reasonable to me ( 78 TL ) and I parked my car near the place with a valet service only ( 10 TL ) for 2 hours Great experience and I highly recommend this place and definitely I'll visit it again next time
  • Amazing place, was very quiet when I was there at lunchtime. Only one other person in the men’s area. You get your own lockable changing room to disrobe and put the towel on, and then head to the sauna with the key on your wrist. The place is old, very clean, very hot, and an amazing experience. The scrubbing is done sitting down in a semi private cubicle, before heading to a marble slab massage area. The massage was good but is not gentle, but it was just what I needed! Afterwards, I asked to tip the attendant directly instead of leaving the tip in a tip box, and I don’t think the front desk guy was very happy as he shook the box on my way out. So for future bathers I would just drop your tip in the box!
  • Great experience - felt very authentic!! Went early in the morning with my friend. The men’s section opened at 8 - the women’s doesn’t open til 9. We both had a great experience!! Very quiet in the morning. So peaceful. Very kind staff. Don’t pay more - just go here!!
  • Great value for money....at 75 Turkish lira per person...the staff doesn't speak English but there wasn't much problem in communication....external appearance may make you think if you have chosen a right hamam....but it has marble interior once you enter the bath....around the main entrance hall, there are lockable changing rooms and you are provided with towel and slippers....once you are inside, you start with sauna followed by scrub and soap bubble massage on a warm marble stone platform....and end with hair shampoo and wash....at the extra cost of 25 Turkish lira was body massage with moisturizer....which I feel is better than sticky oily massage....staff was friendly and ever smiling....it was a great first time experience overall....
