  • Bosphorus Cruise. The Bosphorus (in Turkish Boğaziçi, Istanbul Boğazı or Boğaz, in Greek Βόσπορος, Bósporos) is the strait that joins the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and marks, along with the Dardanelles Strait, the southern boundary between the European continent and the Asian continent. It has a length of 31.7 km for a width ranging from 550 to 3000 meters. On the European side, around the Golden Horn, has developed the city of Istanbul, the ancient Constantinople, whose urban area also extends on the Asian side for about 1800 kilometers. The name means "passage" or "Heifer Ford", from the Greek boûs (bous, Cow) and Πόρος (Poros, Passage), and alludes to the myth according to which Europe, maiden beloved by Zeus, is from these first transformed into heifer then pursued by a gadfly sent by the jealous Was. Annoyed to madness, Europe travels the whole of Greece until it crosses the strait that separates it from Asia. Joshua, Aziz Mahmud Hudayi, and Yahya Efendi and Telli Baba are considered, by some Muslims, the four patron saints of the Bosphorus [1]. The waters of the Bosphorus, whose control has always been of great strategic importance, are now classified as an international maritime domain and are free access. Commercial traffic, which includes oil tankers from the Black Sea, is among the most intense in the world (700 000 vessels per year [2]). The strait is not subject to tides, but the biggest problem is that the surface currents are subjected to the evolution of the winds, which make the navigation at certain points particularly dangerous. Three motorway bridges cross the strait. The first, called the Bosphorus Bridge, 1074 metres long, was completed in 1973. The second, called Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, 1090 meters long, is of 1988, about five kilometers north of the first. The third, called Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, 1408 metres long, was inaugurated on 26 August 2016 and is also equipped with two railway lines linking Anatolia with the Marmara region, the village of Garipçe on the European side to Poyraz on the Asian side. With its 59 meters wide, it is also currently the largest suspension bridge in the world. On 29 October 2013, the "Marmaray" railway tunnel was inaugurated, which is the deepest in the world, reaching 62 metres underwater. Earthquake-proof and well connected to the metro line, it is 14 km long and allows the passage between the European and Asian shores of Istanbul of 1 million and a half commuter per day in just 4 minutes.
