Haci Bekir, Istanbul

2.8
#60 of 129 in Shopping in Istanbul
Known as one of the finest Turkish delight shops in Istanbul, Haci Bekir attracts locals and tourists alike with its sweet treats. Owned and operated by the same family for over 200 years, the shop boasts a long history of making delights--or "lokum," as the locals call this specialty--as well as other classic Turkish treats. Try the plain, rosehip, walnut, and pistachio varieties, and, if you like them, take home a few boxes from the shop. These locally made goods are a traditional gift to bring back from your travels, and make a yummy snack on the plane ride home. Sellers who take advantage of the reputation of the store to be unpleasant with customers. The choice of the Turkish delight is not very clear, and when you look to try to understand what is sold, 5 people stare at you, without Board and with a look of contempt rather than help you. The Turkish delight are good but this is in my opinion not enough to pretend to be a reputable shop.

My guests from abroad to give as a gift this time, Hacı Bekir's Turkish delight varieties I've chosen and gifts as I had several packages with desserts. In the meantime, I had a piece a couple of delight and sweet. It was delicious, I like it. We recommend. Years of practice-run line and continues the service without disrupting the quality of. Bravo, I say.

Where to stay in Istanbul

The bustling downtown core of old Istanbul is the popular choice among tourists wanting a short walking distance to the city's biggest attractions. Here you'll find hostel-style accommodations and reasonably priced and traditionally decorated hotels, as well as bed and breakfasts and inns with views overlooking the sea. Though often the most affordable, accommodations in the old city can be very overrun with tourists and street solicitors. If you seek a more relaxed stay, consider lodging near Taksim Square. This new, trendy neighborhood is a short 15-20 minute ride from the old city, but puts you closer to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Though the newer area of the city is a bit more upscale, you'll also find moderately priced hotels and some hostels. Look for luxury hotels in the western suburbs close to the airport, overlooking the banks of Bosphorus.
