Gulhane Park, Istanbul

4.5
#2 of 67 in Parks in Istanbul
Once an outer garden of Topkapı Palace, Gulhane Park at one time was opened only to the sultan and his harem. Today you, too, can picnic under the shade of trees that date back to the 1800s. Visit a hillside teahouse at the far end of a verdant avenue for views of the bay. On the western edge of the park, the former stable houses the Museum of the History of Science and Technology. Look for the Goths Column, dating from Roman times, which honors a Roman victory over the Goths. Amenities include a big, renovated pool and many kiosks selling snacks, drinks, and ice cream. • Historical monument you could visit the place, very old, it is the back yard of the palaces, I had very good time to relax . took a lot of pictures of the birds nesting on top the ancient trees .  more »
  • To me, it's definitely the best clear of İstanbul Park Gülhane. This Park is pretty big people feel really free. He walked around and once you set foot in places where a lot of the Tanzimat edict before reading, to be people of the past is not without an effective in Nazim Wisdom. It is quite an historic park and a very special place for me. Not necessarily as fast as you can.

  • At the time I visited it was cold and not much to see in December but it does like nice and o can see how it will look during summer times but there is plenty of space to walk around and possible a great display with flowers
  • It is a nice park, but not the best park you can go to in Istanbul. It is nice for a short walk and it is more of a family park. It is not a big park, and there is only one main road that goes from one side to the other in the park. Trees are really tall and nice, some fountains, kids playground, birds, lots of cats and stray dogs, nice benches to sit on.
  • Beautiful and peaceful place. Definitely worth visiting. BUT NOT on weekends. On the weekend there are a LOT (I mean a lo) of people wandering, having snacks and picnics, and the park turns into noisy bazaar))
  • The Gülhane park is a beautiful park located near the Topkapi Palace. I was there two times in April as a tourist and it was absolutely lovely. All the colourful tulips, the many flowers and their scent were mezmerizing, and it was rather quiet and peaceful there.
  • Amazing view and garden is a must see in the morning where you can have a nice brunch at the nearby caffe. Awesome experience.

Where to stay in Istanbul

The bustling downtown core of old Istanbul is the popular choice among tourists wanting a short walking distance to the city's biggest attractions. Here you'll find hostel-style accommodations and reasonably priced and traditionally decorated hotels, as well as bed and breakfasts and inns with views overlooking the sea. Though often the most affordable, accommodations in the old city can be very overrun with tourists and street solicitors. If you seek a more relaxed stay, consider lodging near Taksim Square. This new, trendy neighborhood is a short 15-20 minute ride from the old city, but puts you closer to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Though the newer area of the city is a bit more upscale, you'll also find moderately priced hotels and some hostels. Look for luxury hotels in the western suburbs close to the airport, overlooking the banks of Bosphorus.
