Gulhane Park, Istanbul

4.6
#2 of 32 in Parks in Istanbul
Nature / Park
Once an outer garden of Topkapı Palace, Gulhane Park at one time was opened only to the sultan and his harem. Today you, too, can picnic under the shade of trees that date back to the 1800s. Visit a hillside teahouse at the far end of a verdant avenue for views of the bay. On the western edge of the park, the former stable houses the Museum of the History of Science and Technology. Look for the Goths Column, dating from Roman times, which honors a Roman victory over the Goths. Amenities include a big, renovated pool and many kiosks selling snacks, drinks, and ice cream. • A big park full of green trees and flowers. Great place to just relax and enjoy your holiday. It has a couple of restaurants in the territory where one can enjoy meals with the fascinating view
  • I love this place, the park was the garden of the sultan's Castle in Ottomans era. There is a quite cafe and restaurant provides good staff for good prices.
  • One of the best parks in Istanbul you must visit! There was a cafe up the hill but unfortunately its closed. However there is another good one at the entrance.
  • I just loved the place. It was Friday evening. So peaceful and calm. We enjoyed the time there. We came by chance to this park and couldn't believe what we found there - thousands colourful tulips. It was middle of April. Later I read on the internet that during this time international tulips festival is organised in Istanbul and all parks are full of tulips.
  • Very nicely landscaped park especially tulip season during April is just beautiful. Great place for the family outings. Good cafe and facilities including children's playground and even a mascit.

Where to stay in Istanbul

The bustling downtown core of old Istanbul is the popular choice among tourists wanting a short walking distance to the city's biggest attractions. Here you'll find hostel-style accommodations and reasonably priced and traditionally decorated hotels, as well as bed and breakfasts and inns with views overlooking the sea. Though often the most affordable, accommodations in the old city can be very overrun with tourists and street solicitors. If you seek a more relaxed stay, consider lodging near Taksim Square. This new, trendy neighborhood is a short 15-20 minute ride from the old city, but puts you closer to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Though the newer area of the city is a bit more upscale, you'll also find moderately priced hotels and some hostels. Look for luxury hotels in the western suburbs close to the airport, overlooking the banks of Bosphorus.
