Eyup Sultan Mosque (Eyup Sultan Camii), Istanbul

4.6
Eyup Sultan Mosque (Eyup Sultan Camii) represents an extremely sacred site for Muslims worldwide, ranking fourth in importance. The mosque stands next to the supposed grave of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, a friend of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Al-Ansari was killed while carrying the banner of Islam during the Arab assault on Istanbul from 674 to 678 CE. The mosque was built in 1458 and served as the location for coronation ceremonies for new sultans. Marvel at the painted domes and the intricate prayer niche inside. Outside, pay your respects at the mausoleum of Al-Ansari. Dress appropriately when visiting, as the mosque attracts crowds of Muslims making the pilgrimage to visit the holy site. And we visited the tomb of Eyüp Sultan Tamina and prayers at the mosque on khat. Despite the spiritual climate of the crowd is awesome. Some Lady on the way to that person who is our brother a little more dressed up in that atmosphere, the arrival of more appropriate I think you are right. Pierre Loti Hill in the cemetery above the tea garden and come and go because of the many different people in the immediate vicinity of the mosque can be found. It's a little uncomfortable, although maybe they thought also comes a documented bestowed.

  • Visiting the tomb and the mosque of Ashabi-e-Rasool Hazrat Abu Ayub Ansari was a blessing in disguise. I was awestruck to have been here and thoroughly enjoyed the experience :)
  • Beautiful Masjid and the outside area is also beautiful and here is the Grave of the companion of Prophet Mohammad Peace Be Upon Him Hazrat Abu Ayoub Al Ansari R.A.
  • This is one of those historically significant mosques of Istanbul. It is widely believed that one of prophet Mohammeds companions (sahabe)is buried here. And therefore making it a very popular mosque to visit.
  • The spiritual sense of Eyup masjid area is amazing. Great place for family and shopping. I bought a pair of leather shoes there :)
  • The mosque of Eyup sultan is very good place and there are many bazar near it

Where to stay in Istanbul

The bustling downtown core of old Istanbul is the popular choice among tourists wanting a short walking distance to the city's biggest attractions. Here you'll find hostel-style accommodations and reasonably priced and traditionally decorated hotels, as well as bed and breakfasts and inns with views overlooking the sea. Though often the most affordable, accommodations in the old city can be very overrun with tourists and street solicitors. If you seek a more relaxed stay, consider lodging near Taksim Square. This new, trendy neighborhood is a short 15-20 minute ride from the old city, but puts you closer to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Though the newer area of the city is a bit more upscale, you'll also find moderately priced hotels and some hostels. Look for luxury hotels in the western suburbs close to the airport, overlooking the banks of Bosphorus.
