Doğançay Museum, Istanbul

(4.8/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web)
Housed in a historic five-story home more than 150 years old, you'll find Doğançay Museum, Turkey's first modern art museum. Since opening its doors in 2004, the museum has predominantly showcased the work of its namesake, Burhan Doğançay, and his father Adil. The museum also hosts an annual art competition for elementary school children to promote art education. Doğançay's obsession with the concept of urban walls echoes throughout the museum through colorful abstract paintings accompanied by some photographs. His father's work consists of impressionistic scapes done with oil on canvas. Knowledgeable guides take visitors through the museum's floors and lend insight to the displayed work.
