Corlulu Ali Pasa Medresesi, Istanbul

(4.3/5 based on 460 reviews on the web)
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the Grand Bazaar, taste traditional Turkish tea and coffee, and meditate through the aromatic smoke of hookahs at Corlulu Ali Pasa Medresesi. Situated inside a historical building that was once a religious school and a dervish lodge, the cafe offers an authentic Turkish atmosphere. Notice the hundreds of multicolored glass lamps, walls adorned with kilims, and ornamental hookahs (or "nargile" in Turkish). The cafe's popularity with tourists and locals, as well as city cats, makes it crowded at times. It maintains the old Turkish way of relaxing, so don't be surprised if some non-traditional drinks are unavailable.
