Cemberlitas Hamami, Istanbul

2.7
#7 of 61 in Spas in Istanbul
In a country known for its baths, Cemberlitas Hamami represents one of the most notable spots. This historical Turkish bath, or hamam as they are called in Turkey, has been open since 1584 and continues to provide an authentic experience to locals and tourists alike. The hamam was built at the request of Nurbanu Sultan, wife of former Turkish Sultan Selim II, as a means of bringing in revenue. Enter the hamam through segregated men's and women's entrances and continue to the Sicaklik, or hot room. This steam room prepares you for the intense bathing experience. Scrub down with traditional copper bowls, or pay for an attendant to pamper you like a sultan with a scrub and massage. The hamam also offers a variety of extra services including Indian head massage, clay mask, and reflexology. • I visited the Cemberlitas Hamam last week while visiting Istanbul. I liked that you didn't have to make a reservation & seemed affordable. Looking at the services online, the Indian Head Rub sounded....  more »
  • If you're modest and fear being bathed by someone else in a room with other ladies (men and women are bathed separately) then this probably isn't an activity that you would enjoy. Inhibitions aside...  more »

  • 1. Accepts cards 2. Good location 3. Reasonable price 4. Nothing required to be carried Except for the receptionist, none speak or understand English. They did their job well, but as many mentioned in their reviews, hygiene is questionable. Also the staff who bathed me asked me couple of times to tip him (which I’d have done even if he hadn’t asked openly). Few staff were not 100% dedicated, so your experience depends on which guy you get.
  • Don''t give money to thieves, the people who run this places are thieves and evil people. They steal, they lie, they are awful people. Stay away! Protect yourself. Obviously don't bring extra cash there, but still don't even go there in the first place because they are horrible people in a city full of lovely friendly honest people. You can find better nicer places no problem.
  • Treat yourself a traditional Turkish bath. The Haman is antique with all the bells and whistles of its age. The stuff is friendly and the prices are fair. Get a good friend to go with and enjoy the massage, the steam and the atmosphere.
  • Amazing! Good to relax and take your time! The bath is relaxing and you can rest after everything! Amazing experience
  • We went to this Turkish bath and had a fantastic experience there.Received a lovely massage in a traditional hamam. Definitely go back again.
