  • Was looking forward to the gallery and possibly a workshop. Had requested in advance by email, unfortunately no response received. Am then direct to the address, but unfortunately there is no longer the gallery. After a long time in the neighborhood, I found out then fever Gallery has moved to Istanbul. Therefore, the owner should maybe even delete your portal on TripAdvisor. Think I not so great when you're on the ground and that is described there no longer. In Ürgyp there is a very small shop for Ebru art, the lady there sells complete sets of Ebru and has some good pictures in the shop anyway.

  • A wonderful kind of Ottoman art...
  • I was fortunate enough to meet Naile at the bus station asking her for directions to Uchisar. Serendipitous- we were headed the same directions! On the bus, she told me of her family, career and passions. Her vivacity for the Ebru art captivated me so much I took a detour to visit her gallery. And am I happy I did. There I looked at her paintings; some of which had immaculate detail, elaborate composition and elegant intricacies. She explained Ebru is a 600+ year old Turkish art form where dyes are placed in a water mix that include cow enzymes and then delicately transposed to a medium (paper, papyrus, silk, marble, etc). Then she demonstrated the process. It's an interesting art form that combines creativity and chemistry. Just watching a master work on the medium is hypnotic. I also met her husband who was a delight, offering tea and showing me pictures of their family and world record! Yes, Naile holds a world record. As I left, Naile called me back and gave me the painting she drew for me. Personally signed - AMAZING. Naile and her husband is one of the most memorable couples I've met while traveling - they are good people. Tesekkur Ederim Naile for sharing your passion with me. Viet P.S. Ask them what their secret to 30+ years of marriage. The answers are humorous and apt.

Where to stay in Goreme

As a popular tourist destination, Göreme offers plenty of accommodations, many appropriately "cave-themed." Options range from hostels and guesthouses to mid-market and upscale hotels. If you're feeling adventurous, opt to sleep in a cave here. The level of luxury varies among cave rooms, but you can expect them to be quite humid and damp. Just outside of the main attraction of cave churches and away from the volume of visitors in the Cappadocia area, you'll find boutique hotels as well as budget accommodations and hostels. Practice your bargaining skills in advance, and you're sure to land a better deal. Be aware that theft has been reported in Goreme and the surrounding areas, so lock your hotel doors and windows.
