Goreme National Park, Goreme

4.9
#1 of 8 in Parks in Goreme
Get a bird's eye view of the natural rock formations at Goreme National Park. As a World Heritage Site, the park's ancient structures have been protected from development. Many have been left untouched, though some were carved out and used as churches during the Roman period. More recently, some have been transformed into housing and restaurants. The park covers 40 sq km (15.4 sq mi), and while it may seem untraditional, the best way to see it is from above. Consider taking a hot air balloon ride over the entire park and, along with the landscape, you'll likely see dozens of other balloons in the distance. Ask your hotel for a suggestion on who to book with, as there are many companies throughout Cappadocia that organize these rides. • Thank Mother Nature for spending tens of thousands of years producing a landscape for you to enjoy! It is completely surreal as if some Hollywood director has had the ability to command the elements themselves to create a set that is out of this world. Autumn is a marvellous time of year to visit as the colour of the changing trees sets and awesome balance between stone, white cloud and heavenly blue sky.
  • Best way to see this is by hot air balloon - magic!
  • login to 30 pounds, but in addition to the ridiculous to take 10 pounds Dark Church

Where to stay in Goreme

As a popular tourist destination, Göreme offers plenty of accommodations, many appropriately "cave-themed." Options range from hostels and guesthouses to mid-market and upscale hotels. If you're feeling adventurous, opt to sleep in a cave here. The level of luxury varies among cave rooms, but you can expect them to be quite humid and damp. Just outside of the main attraction of cave churches and away from the volume of visitors in the Cappadocia area, you'll find boutique hotels as well as budget accommodations and hostels. Practice your bargaining skills in advance, and you're sure to land a better deal. Be aware that theft has been reported in Goreme and the surrounding areas, so lock your hotel doors and windows.
