Goreme National Park, Goreme

#1 of 8 in Parks in Goreme
Get a bird's eye view of the natural rock formations at Goreme National Park. As a World Heritage Site, the park's ancient structures have been protected from development. Many have been left untouched, though some were carved out and used as churches during the Roman period. More recently, some have been transformed into housing and restaurants. The park covers 40 sq km (15.4 sq mi), and while it may seem untraditional, the best way to see it is from above. Consider taking a hot air balloon ride over the entire park and, along with the landscape, you'll likely see dozens of other balloons in the distance. Ask your hotel for a suggestion on who to book with, as there are many companies throughout Cappadocia that organize these rides. • It is amazing to see this landscape of rock formations that gives nature, it is advisable to go with a guide so explain each of the "churches" and houses with its history. It has a spectacular view if one wants you can take a stroll in camel but should be clarity in the price before mounting is not to be surprises.

  • Geological and, at a certain point, architecture of this National Park are sleep. With different forms, of animals, trees and hives of bees, they form a unique landscape and that will not leave anyone indifferent. Personally, I was a full day visiting the caves and the Christian churches and each one is more impressive. Gothic wall paintings explaining the exploits of the Apostles, Jesus and several saints, pintadas painted for thousands and thousands of years and in a perfect state is something amazing. Stroll through these natural castles and deformed mountains, as I said my guide, is something that must be done at least once in life. The formations were created from erosion of wind, water and the passage of time. They served as populated provisional for the inhabitants of the area were constantly attacked. They thought that hiding among the mountains and thus, creating a city underground piling between the depths of rocks would serve as a defense against any attack, and it was. The caves could not be attacked and were abandoned when the Ottoman Empire brought the power necessary to ensure military, social and economic stability of the Empire, for this reason, the inhabitants left the caves to settle in most urban areas . I recommend to visit the Church of the serpent, on which is painted a representation of the pattern of Catalunya, Sant Jordi.

  • Great day trip. Amazing landscape. The rock formations are definitely something to see.
  • l have recommend to see when you will be in Turkey
  • Thank Mother Nature for spending tens of thousands of years producing a landscape for you to enjoy! It is completely surreal as if some Hollywood director has had the ability to command the elements themselves to create a set that is out of this world. Autumn is a marvellous time of year to visit as the colour of the changing trees sets and awesome balance between stone, white cloud and heavenly blue sky.
  • Best way to see this is by hot air balloon - magic!
  • Nevsehir, Goremeyi and common nature and human civilization in the area of Urgup and ligigi have the possibility to find the law I need to see to.
