History Museum Historic Site
Step into the ancient dwellings and sanctuaries of Goreme Acikhava Muzesi, a World Heritage Site carved into Cappadocia stone and featuring historic Byzantine wall paintings. This outdoor museum consists of the remains of rock-cut churches, most of which date from the 10th, 11th, and 12th centuries. The site also has remnants of underground towns from the 4th century. Go on a walking tour of the valley's intriguing landscape to discover this stunning natural and man-made complex. Plaques along the way give you adequate information for exploring the area on your own. Don't forget to wear sensible shoes. Where to stay in Goreme

As a popular tourist destination, Göreme offers plenty of accommodations, many appropriately "cave-themed." Options range from hostels and guesthouses to mid-market and upscale hotels. If you're feeling adventurous, opt to sleep in a cave here. The level of luxury varies among cave rooms, but you can expect them to be quite humid and damp. Just outside of the main attraction of cave churches and away from the volume of visitors in the Cappadocia area, you'll find boutique hotels as well as budget accommodations and hostels. Practice your bargaining skills in advance, and you're sure to land a better deal. Be aware that theft has been reported in Goreme and the surrounding areas, so lock your hotel doors and windows.

  • Amazing place. The extra fee for the black church is totally worth it. It's a must if you are in Capadoccia.  more »

  • It's beautiful but always one of the most crowded sites around. There are 6 churches to visit but a walk outside might worth just the same if you are going to visit ihlara valley as well with many churchesin. If you have limited time, try Zelve open air museum instead which is just amazing in my opinion.
  • Nah, just overrun. Zelve Open Air Museum was in our opinion the better visit. Overrun with tourists and we came at quiet times, can't really walk freely through the caves. Lots of history though in this place and some beautiful paintings.
  • It is so beatiful. Natural wonder. I love here . I hope I will see again.
  • So much h history, beautiful paintings in an outdoor space
  • I love this museum. We see the early christian era in this museum. The view around is beautiful. The scene inside the churches are amazing.
