Kayakoy, Fethiye
(4.3/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
Walk the empty narrow streets lined with roofless stone buildings at Kayakoy, a modern ruin deserted as the result of repatriation in the 1920s. This ghost town, originally built in the 1700s, was home to 2,000 Greek Orthodox residents before the Greco-Turkish War. Today it features nearly 500 abandoned homes, derelict fountains and cisterns, and two scavenged churches, which retain some of their original wall paintings and ceramic floor mosaics. Several houses have been restored. Visit the private museum to learn the history of the town. The valley covered in vineyards and the surrounding hills offer many hiking opportunities. Make Kayakoy part of your personalized Fethiye itinerary using our Fethiye family vacation planner.
