Troy (Truva), Canakkale

#Battlefield, #Ruin, #Must See
Gaze across the plains of Troy (Truva), where Odysseus once left the proverbial wooden horse in one of the most cunning war hoaxes in history. This World Heritage Site was the center of ancient civilizations from the early Bronze Age until Roman times. Driven by his childhood obsession with Homer's epic, German businessman Heinrich Schliemann excavated the remains of nine historical civilizations in the 1870s. Walk along the remnants of rough ancient walls and across a paved chariot ramp. With your imagination and the help of a guide you can picture how the famed city from The Iliad appeared. The layer of Roman Ilium is best-preserved with its bouleuterion (the city council) and a small theater. Kids will enjoy examining the mock Trojan horse in front of the entrance. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Canakkale holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Troy (Truva) and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Of course we must put right, because the historical remains are not easily readable, but if you free your imagination and the collective memory the Homeric heroes are there to be admired.

  • If one travels through this area may not pass through Troy, is the birthplace of the civilizations and the classics such as the Iliad and the Odeisa, but is actually so so damaged and destroyed, that is not worth. It is very difficult to appreciate something. It is almost to experts.

  • Sadly Troy was the least impressive of all the ancient cities we visited. It’s great to see it and relive the store of Troy but the ruins just aren’t as impressive as other ancient cities like Asklepi...  more »

  • It is quite exciting to visit the Trojan Ruins. If you are around, you definetely have to see them!
  • Love the history. Not too big yet could spend a lot of time to get to know it.
  • Its fame surpasses whats left of Troy but still worth a visit. History was made here but dont be expected to be blown away by ancient architecture. Guides are extremely knowledgeable which made the visit well worth it.
  • Nice historical knowledge. Cooling time to come in April & do the walk around.
  • Cool place the horse of troy is there however the ruis are very ruined and that creates a guess game, even for tour guides.
