Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, Bodrum City

3.2
#4 of 13 in Museums in Mugla Province
Admire Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the only standing historic site of the original Seven Wonders of Antiquity. Built in the 4th century BCE, this 1,500-year-old mausoleum is known for the novelty of its architectural style compared to other buildings of its time. Although many of the artifacts from the mauseoleum are on display in museums around the world, the ruins here include column pieces that display ancient Greek stone-carving work, an ancient stairway, and parts of mosaics. View some of these artifacts and mosaics at the museum adjacent to the ruins and learn about the history behind them. Wear comfortable shoes so you can get around easily. Note that the site is readily accessible from the city center and local metro station. • Short and clear place where history begins and ends, what else is swimming a hand touching a hand, sad:/

  • It's a lot of expectation. If you love history and his work, visit a place where you can see as soon as possible. Is passing.

  • Hawaiian entertainment options, see your children behind to learn where we need to. All the archaeological dig found the British Museum sold or kidnapped. Just go there anyway.

  • It's a shame that they didn't make more of this actual wonder of the world. It's an ancient heritage site, and the "museum" consists of a few slides and boards explaining a bit the relations between different sizes of the found ruins (hand drawn in the 80s one would assume). Also, the ruins can be walked on and people would even leave some garbage around the ancient pillars. It's still a great site and sight, but they should take care more of something as old as the Mausoleum. Imagine the Romans would let the Colosseum rot like this.
  • Well preserved relics but the museum is small and with not enough info. Very difficult to find.
  • It is a small museum in Bodrum. There is not so much indications to find the place. However it is a well preserved ruins where used to be one of the ancient 7 world wonders. So, I think that it is worth a visit!!
  • Charming place, one of the wonders of the world. Atmosphere is exciting.
  • below average-average is 3 starts clearly 1 star is below avergase

Where to stay in Bodrum City

The expansive area of Bodrum City and its seaside coast offer much in the way of accommodations--at any price point. The city's main attraction, the castle, seems to yield budget-friendly hostels and guesthouses in the immediate area; expect dense crowds enjoying the animated nightlife here. An array of four-star hotels and resorts hug the curves of the coastline and continue farther west of the city core. If you prefer more luxurious lodging, seek out the handful of five-star resorts located slightly inland and a little bit southeast of the city core.
