Hadrian's Gate, Antalya
(4.2/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web)
Hadrian's Gate represents a triumphal arch dedicated to Roman emperor Hadrian, who came to the city in 130 CE. The gate sits flanked by two towers and richly decorated with marble columns, coffered ceilings, and stone carvings featuring floral motifs, rosettes, and lion heads. While the southern tower was built in Hadrian's time, the upper part of the northern tower represents the Seljuk period. Notice the deep trenches in the stone pavement under the central arch, imprinted by the wheels of thousands of wagons. Nearby streets are lined with restaurants and shops selling carpets, glassware, spices, and dried fruit. Observe the three-arched gate from one of the benches of the park on its east side while sipping tea (seek out an itinerant çaycı--a Turkish tea waiter). With our custom trip planner, Antalya attractions like Hadrian's Gate can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • The charm of the old town is breath taking... From the moment you walk through the gate.... The narrow streets, cafes and restaurants keep you busy for hours.....

  • You can see the gate and read a bit of history about the place, not really too much more to see. Wouldn't travel too far to see it, but if your passing or not too far it's one to tick of your 'have seen' list.
  • The best antic ,otantic, romantic, nicest place to go.
  • A nice historic gate. And when you enter through those gates you may ay find very lovely restaurants.
  • A piece of ancient history you can walk under and even touch of you like. It's interesting to see how low street level was back then.
  • In pretty good condition considering the age. Hadrian walked through these gates and so can you
