Damlatas Caves, Alanya

(700+ reviews on the web)
Cave Nature / Park
Admire stalactites, stalagmites, and other rock formations located right next to the beach at Damlatas Caves. When construction crews began building the harbor in 1948, nobody expected that a dynamite blast would unearth a geological wonder hidden below the city. The air inside the cave has proven beneficial to those suffering from asthma and other respiratory conditions, which is what initially drew visitors from all over Turkey to Alanya and established the city as a renowned tourist destination. The temperature inside the cave remains a steady 22 C (71 F) throughout the year, so make sure to bring appropriate clothes. Because of stairs near the entrance, the cave is not easily accessible for wheelchair users. • The cave is situated in the city center and not very hard to find. It is a quite small cave but very interesting to see. The entrance fee is small about 6 TL each which is less than £1 each.  more »

  • Firstly, the cave is only open to people with asthma in the morning. However, we visited in the afternoon so for us this was not a problem. Nonetheless, it seems there were still people with asthma or perhaps just local people sitting there in the afternoon. This in itself is fine, but their reaction to tourists coming to take pictures (used no flash) at a tourist attraction(!) was anything, but fine. The amount of unpleasant looks and glares we got is unacceptable. Secondly, the cave itself is rather disappointing. From reading online we were left with the impression that it would be quite a large cave. However, it did not live up to its expectations. The cave itself is not that long and ends in a larger area with benches.
  • Well... Don't expect much. Its a small cave that is crowded with people. Not really worth the time. Better to buy a icecream outside.
  • Ok for a quick visit not much to see would recommend buying the 10tl ticket will get u in here the shipyard and the red tower
  • Great cave in the city, so its easy to reach, costs only 6 liras/ less than 2 euro, so its worth it if u never been in one
  • Easy access place to see caves right on the beach. Suitable also for families with small children as there are good walk paths/stairs (no strollers).
