Alanya Kalesi (Castle), Alanya
(4.4/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
A medieval castle built high atop a hill, Alanya Kalesi (Castle) now serves as an open-air museum. The castle was constructed mostly in the 13th century on the remains of former fortifications from the Byzantine and Roman eras. Built on a rocky peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea, the castle stands 250 m (820 ft) high and offers an unmatched view of the bay and the surrounding area. Make the long trek up, or jump in a taxi to reach the ruins of the massive castle, whose protective wall extends 6.5 km (4 mi), and which includes 140 towers. The site itself lacks a lot of historical information, so hire a local guide if you wish to learn more. • The second time I had the chance to see. The Sun really has a tremendous angle and there's something else a church in views of the left, but even to go to panoramic views of Alanya. The castle walls around the Red Tower and don't forget to see the dockyard. Beautifully preserved.

  • The ancient fortress of Alanya Girds for mountain 6.5 miles, beautifully illuminated at night. Was built by the Seljuk Turks in the middle ages (13 century). To the highest point of the fortress from the foot of the mountain can be reached by taxi (the path to the top of CA. 5 km), also runs city bus No. 4. Walk-around 1.5 hours. By the way look breathtaking views of Alanya with stunning camera angles (the best place for a photo not find!). Reaching the top of the mountain-turnstiles to pass inside the fortress. There's point view-entrance fee 15 Turkish Liras (CA. 300-320 USD). For the turnstiles-fortress walls with remains of buildings of Seljuk, on top of a splendid panorama of Alanya with bird's-eye view! Captures the spirit of beauty: on the left is the Cleopatra Beach, on the right hand is the second Bay of Alanya with a beacon, Red Tower, Mosque. The entire coast as in the Palm of your hand! Halfway to the top, you can cool off at a spring, almost all the way-to drink fresh juice (Orange, pomegranate), taste the fruit of the cactus.

  • Who wants to play sports, do very well with a trip to the castle with the bike. Also for untrained cyclists, this is to create. You can take a break quite wonderful with the locals at a freshly squeezed orange juice or Pomegranate juice. The castle itself is rather the views and the age. On-site, not much to nothing is going on, out of season and at the political situation... What is indeed pleasant.

  • really nice place. we were there on bike - it is not for everyone, really hardcore hill! but worth it ;) view is nice and since it is open till 19:00 you can make it till sunset and have nice photos.
  • This is a rip-off - except for a nice view you will be severly disappointed. There were barealy no explanations on the historic inheritage on site and what was there has been severaly damaged - so you are being completely left in the dark about. Save your money and go elsewhere.
  • Nice view and sunset is pretty The Taxidrivers that wait by the station beside the Castle are what they are, be aware. 10 liras for 800m 😂 downhill to a restaurant..... Remember always ask "how much?".
  • Alanya Castle (Alanya Kalesi) The castle was built on the remnants of earlier Byzantine era and Roman era fortifications. After the area was pacified under the Ottoman Empire, the castle ceased to be purely defensive, and numerous villas were built inside the walls during the 19th century. Today the building is an open-air museum. Access to the seaward castle is ticketed, but much of the area inside the wall, including the landward castle is open to the general public. The castle is located 250 meters (820 ft.) high on a rocky peninsula jutting into the Mediterranean Sea, which protects it from three sides. The wall which surrounds the castle is 6.5 kilometers (4.0 mi) long and includes 140 towers. 400 different cisterns were built to serve the castle. In 2009, city officials filed to include Alanya Castle and Tersane as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and were named to the 2009 Tentative List.
  • Maybe the world's most interesting historical castle area.. have stories and have historical shipyard from Selçuklu Empire as well..
