Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Get some cultural insight at Paseo de la Princesa and The Poet's Passage. Step off the beaten path and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Parque de las Palomas. Step out of San Juan with an excursion to Caribbean Trading Company Store in Palmer--about 40 minutes away. There's more to do: admire the landmark architecture of The Capitol of Puerto Rico and make a trip to Plaza de La Democracia.

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
On the 22nd (Sun), tour the pleasant surroundings at Playa La Chiva and then kick back and relax at Playa Pata Prieta. On the next day, enjoy the sand and surf at Caracas Beach, find your balance on the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and then stop by Isla Vida.
