Fire Island is the large center island of the outer barrier islands parallel to the south shore of Long Island, New York. Start off your visit on the 30th (Fri): look for all kinds of wild species at Sailors Haven Visitor Center and then enjoy the sand and surf at Kismet Beach.

Cutchogue is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. Take a break from the city and head to Quogue Wildlife Refuge and Foster Memorial Beach. Horton Point Lighthouse Nautical Museum and William Floyd Estate will appeal to history buffs. Take a break from Cutchogue with a short trip to Boat Tours & Water Sports in Sag Harbor, about 48 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: do a tasting at Coffee Pot Cellars Tasting Room, identify plant and animal life at Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge, and shop like a local with Alex Ferrone Gallery.
