A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
Kick off your visit on the 26th (Sun): steep yourself in history at Goryokaku Park. Keep things going the next day: enjoy breathtaking views from Goryokaku Tower, then take in the awesome beauty at Mount Hakodate, and then make a trip to Hachimanzaka.

Sapporo

A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Explore Sapporo's surroundings by going to Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery (in Yoichi-cho), Otaru Canal (in Otaru) and Makumbetsu Marshmarshland (in Ishikari). There's still lots to do: walk around Odori Park, take a stroll around Sapporo Underground Shopping Centre Aurora Town, make a trip to Sapporo TV Tower, and contemplate the long history of Sapporo Clock Tower.

Biei-cho

Famous for scenic views of vast fields, wide meadows, and gently rolling hills against the backdrop of the Taisetsu mountain range, Biei-cho offers a picture-prefect setting for a pleasant countryside vacation.
On the 1st (Fri), take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Kurodake, take in the awesome beauty at Daisetsuzan, and then stop by Asahidake Ropeway. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 2nd (Sat): take in nature's colorful creations at Shikisai no Oka, then contemplate the waterfront views at Shirogane Blue Pond, and then stroll around Shinei no Oka Tenbo Koen.
