The former capital of Guatemala and a World Heritage Site, Antigua retains its colonial charm and remains one of the most visited destinations in the country.
On the 26th (Mon), explore the landscape on two wheels at La Ruta del Yalu, then explore the ancient world of Convento de las Capuchinas, and then explore the ancient world of Convento Santa Clara. Keep things going the next day: explore the ancient world of Arco de Santa Catalina, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesia de La Merced, and then get impressive views of Volcán Pacaya.

Traveling by combination of shuttle and flight from Tikal National Park to Antigua takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car, flight, and shuttle; or drive. A little town with a thriving tourism industry, Panajachel sits on the northern shore of scenic Atitlan Lake, one of Guatemala's major vacation destinations.
On the 28th (Wed), pause for some serene contemplation at Church of St Francis, then trek along Reserva Natural Atitlán, then contemplate the geological forces at Lake Atitlan, and finally see the interesting displays at Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo Museum.

Named for the Quetzal bird--one of Guatemala's national symbols--Quetzaltenango once included the territories controlled by K'iche' Mayans, a pre-Columbian tribe eventually supplanted by Spanish conquistadores.
On the 29th (Thu), pause for some serene contemplation at La Ermita de la Concepcion (La Conquistadora) and then explore the striking landscape at Fuentes Georginas.
