The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.

Attractions like Huis Ten Bosch and Fukuoka Anpanman Children's Museum in Mall make great kid-friendly stops. Change things up with these side-trips from Fukuoka: Kumamoto (Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto, Kumamoto Castle, & more), Nagasaki (Glover Garden, Megane Bridge, & more) and Dazaifu Tenman-gu (in Dazaifu).
